For a more detailed ac count of its proceedings, we must leler tin reader -to another column. The Convention was composed of the "bone andsinew'' of theStaie there w- ie few if any political aspirants in the body it was an assemblage of the People: all classes of society were represented in it the men of hard hands, sound reads and true hearts, the Farmers forming the git at er portion of the body. Its proceeding were bold, manly, and straight forwaid. Union of action and harmony of sentiment were distinguishing characterises of the Convention. Although it was not as full as we desired, yet, we feel every assur ance that its proceedings will meet a hearty response in the bosom of every Democrat in North Carolina. The nomination of Mr. Henry was not only unanimous but enthusiastic. The small effort of the "Register" to engender discord h is b en signally rebuked in the UN NIMOUS a doption of the Report and Reso!'j:iens of the Committee of twenty-six; and the dis cussion, which Mr. Haywood's objection to cerlain parts of the Report eiie.iicd, af forded conclusive proof that the charge ihat the Democracy of the Old North State were leader-ridden was false; and a'so. that while freedom of discussion is tolerated, the good old Republican rule, th it the ma jority ought to govern, wnl be observed The attempt of tlie '"R-gister" and its Cor- j respondent to depreciate the ell iris of Messrs. The "Register" ought to have noticed the avowal of Mr. Haywood that he cordially approved of me nomination of the Convention. We be. lieve and so predict, that the 'Register'' and its Correspondent have, in view ot con tingent political advantage, given Mr., a letter ot credit which they will mot cer tainly protest before the August campaign is over. During the Convention, it was addressed by many gentlcnn-n with ability, force and eloquence. Among them were Mes-ri. Strange, Edwards, Haywood, Hybart, JVheeler, Cad. Jones, Jr. of Oiange, Glenn, Jones of Warren. Ueid of Cumber land, Wilder of Wake, and Sidney Smith ot Urange, and others Most of 1 beset:- n - tlemen are well known to ihe people of Our d inst., William lioswell, who was con State, as the able and feat less advocates of lined in the jail of that county for a breach jjemocrauc principles and require no com- mendations at our hands; but we hone we may be permitted to express our warm ad miration of the effort of some of the young champions of our glorious cause, and a mong them we proudly rank Jones of Or ange, S. Smith of Orange, h id of Cum berland, and Wilder of Wake. Our standard is now raised, and on it we inscribe with heart-fell exultation the name of HENRY. With the cause of the Peo-J pie in iws hands, and guided by the pure and unchang.r. principles of Democracy we feel a,M.reu that will meet a cord, d support in his canvass, and thav u ICSlJt will be a glorious triumph of Democratic principles in the election of her highly gift ed champion. FOR THE TAHBOUO1 PRESS. Mr. Editor: What has become of your two correspondents, Scissors and Shears, who brandished their weapons so valiantly near the close of the last session?. We were much amused up here with the contest, but the vacation,! suppose, inter vening, put a stop to the warfare. 1 am the recruit of neither party, 1 light under the banner of neither, and my object is not to lenew hostilities, if they have already ceased. My sole and only object in writ ing these few lines is, to call your attention to a remarkable coincidence of language between a part of the critique of Scissors, and an oration which has recently fallen into my bands. The question arises, how came this to be? Did "Scissors" actually purloin the thoughts of another, without giving a receipt indue form? This I am loth to believe of any genuine son of his Alma Mater. lf he coincidence proves any thing, it proves that two individuals may think & write alike yea, even verb urn verboas the following extracts incontes tibly prove. Without saying any thing a- bout the YJfc pr sions, which are scattered, "thick as au tumnal leaves in Vallambiwa" through out both the oration and critique, such as the fpillarsof government resting on At- Inntnan shoulders." &C. &C.
