The gums swell, the secretion of saliva is In- creased, the child is seized with frequent and sudden fits of rryiug, watrhings, start ing in the sleep, and spasms of peculiar parts, the child shrieks with extreme vio lence, and thrusts its fingers into its mouth. If these precursory symptoms are not spee dily alleviated, spasmodic convulsions uni versally supervene, and soon cause the dissolution of the infant.
