PROPOSALS '
For publishing in the City of Raleigh a
semi-monthly Papery to be called.
The Southern Advocates
It is well known to a great many of.
our readers that the religionists with
whom we have to contend, have so blen
ded the religion they profess with poli
tics, that it has become almost impossible
to expose the plans they have gotten up
to obtain money and law power, without
digressing from the established rule by
which the Primitive has been and is to
be published. The primitive is designed
to advocate Primitive doctrine and usages
found in the Bible, and not to blend them
with politics. But it has become . notori-1
ous mat there are two sets oi people
among us whose actions are striking at
our Constitutional and equal rights, and
should they succeed, they, in my judg
ment, will be both ready at thcsame
time to strike the fatal blow at our liber
ty. You, my brethren, are the salt of the
earth, and for the elect sake those davs
were shortened; and who knows thai, by
a united exertion on our part in prayer,
and in endeavoring to lay the approaching
evils before the people, God may yet
leave us national protection Were we
to take latitude and blend politics with the
Primitive to show the evils that are set
on foot to infringe on our rights, and to en
deavor to make them appear as plain as
we ever saw (he sun, it would be almos
entirely among ourselves; consequently
our labors would not have but very little
effect on the community.
From the above considerations, I pro-
i pose to publish a paper devoted to the best
interests of the South." It is lime, that the
Southern people should begin to see.lheir
j position, and free themselves fiom.the
I worst kind of servitude. While the
j North is 'alking so much about abolishing
colored slavery in the South, let us devise
ways and means to. abolish white , slavery
in the South from the North, without dis- i
! solving this blessed Union, in as much as
i the South has every ficility, if they will
use andapply them, to mnkeit great. Of

Chicago, HI.. March 7, 1843.
Dr. D. Jaynr Dear sir: You ask me what
proofs I meet with of the efficacy of your Carmi
ative. I can safely say that I never prescribed a
medicine for Bowel comnlaints that has criven me
so much satisfaction, and my patients so speedy
and perfect relief as this. Whenever introduced!
into a family, it becomes a standing remedy for
those ailments, and is called for again and again,
which I think a pretty good proof its efficacy
and usefulness. In the summer compiaim oi cnu-
dren, it has frequently appeared to snatch the lit
tie victims, as it were, from the gravei uIt saved

Are prepared in that way which will secure their
beneficial effects to the system in the safest and
easiest manner. For instance,' some ingredients
have to be prepared in the vacuo; that is, the air is
exhausted in the utensil, end remains so until a
combination is effected with other ingredients,
which afterwards prevents the air from acting in
uriously upon the medicine Again, the propor
tion of each ingredient depends upon its multiply
ing power upon other ingredients For the power
of different vegetable purgatives upon each other
is governed by similar laws that govern the power
of figures by multiplication. Nine added to nine
make eighteen: but njne times nine are jeighty
onei So it is with" some vegetable ouroratives
Bj adding nine parts of one ingredient, and nine
parts of another ingredient together, he power is
increased, not to eighteen, but to eighty-one. For
example, either of the articles, to produce any
purgative effect, would have to be used to the ex
tent of eighty-one grains; by combining thern
only eighteen grains have to be useJi Again, a
hother ingredient is found to multiply this rpo wer
again,' which in a proportion of iwagraihs; would
have ho effect upon the animal economy, but
vhich;added to eighteen grains of a compound of
two parts of nine grains, each of two ingredients,
will again multiply the power- which they have
gained of eighty-one, to , one hundred and. sixty .
two. "So again, the mixture of twenty grains can
be again multiplied by an addition of two grains;
toihe power, of three hundred and twenty-four
grains of the original power of the two firjt ingre
dients Here we have twenty-two grains, which,
as a purgative, contain the power equal to throe
hundred and twentv-four grains of either cf the
articles alone; nevertheless, also so powerful after
being thus combined, are safe in any .quantity-
always having a beneficial effect, and in no'case
capable of doing injury, of which thousands bear
ample witness .
