DOSSEY BATTLE, - - - Editor. TAllllOUO'.N.C. Friday, : : JDec. 17, 1875 Virginia Senatorship. The democratic caucus of the Vir ginia Legislature, which for four dajs ha3 been endeavoring to nom inate a Senator Vice Hon. John "W. Johnson, renominated him to suc ceed himself. On the last ballot Johnson received 7o votes and Dan iel G-i--Johnson obtaining 3 votes more than the requisite number. Domestic Economy. That's the slogan. We merely told our readers how 1 ll. l fl .Mil- niucii money uiey spent iui uum, and we are glad to hear from all sections, that our farmers are planting wheat. They will stand aghost when we collate statistics and show them how much meat they buy, which wo propose to do ia a short time. We will never, can never, prosper 1 so long as we spend so much and make so little. It has been demon strated beyond a doubt that we can't eat cotton, and that cotton is inadequate to buy food for us, with out keeping us impoverished and helpless. We invite communica tions from our practical farmers on all subjects pertaining to improv ing our condition. We are a farm ing community and nothing more. The great majority of our readers are farmers and the Southerner is a fine medium if communication one with another, for their mutual improvement. If a farmer shouiddesire to have his views bruitedjand feels a delicacy in writing for the press, let him come to u, and Ave will put it in Sunday clothes. And who'll be the wiser ? We can't hold the; plow, but we'll do the best we ca:;. Our columns are ever open for the promulgation of whatever may seem good for farmers. KiairnansHp of Csnmittess. In eubstantiation of which Judge Henderson, who had been special attorney for the Government m Uie prosecution of the Whiskey fraud cases at St. Louis has boon dischar ged. His offence was, that in the dis charge of what he regarded as his full duty to the Government, he animadverted '.n prominent offi cials. The position was then offered to Mr. Glover, another eminent law yer of St. Louis. He declined on th ground that an attorney should not be tram melled. A. lawyer named. Eroau head was then appointed.
