C., TUESDAY, MARCH 19, 1929- No. 41 Gem. J. M. Carson Speaker At P.T.A. Meeting Mondag General J. M. Carson was the principal speaker at the Tryon P. T. A. meeting Monday afternoon. His subject was “How the First Contingent of A. E. F. Was Sent to France in 1917” The speaker told of the preparations made, mobilizing the troops, getting the ships and food ready, and many inside glimpses of the problems faced during the World War. Following his address committee reports showed that $116.65 had been collected from the vanishing teas; the membership now stands at 171; the balance in the treasury was $242.77. A committee was appointed composed of Mrs. Nelson Jackson, Mrs. Walter Jones and Mrs. Julian Calhoun to petition the Town of Tryon to build a cement sidewalk from the highway to the school building. Mrs. Pratt desires to introduce in the school the World Friendship League, an organization to promote peace. A pageant is planned to be given soon at Harmon Field. National Forest Week This is National Forest Week. Warden O. G Bridges of Columbus is requesting everybody to help preserve our forests. During this week he wants you to impress upon children the importance of saving our trees. Kiuxmis Ladies Nite Tonight The Kiwanians will get their entertainment tonight by degrees. J. S. Massenburg, A. 8., Tryon’s newest lawyer, will talk about Kiwanis. He is wrapped up in the work, and comes with a lot of experience from the Hendersonville club. Thos. L. Elder, F. R. N. S. of Great Britain, will talk about Tryon. He won’t say whether it will be about us as a people, the weather or as a naval base for the Chinese. Anyway, it will be a surprise. The Rev.
