They are located on the undeveloped street that starts from the city hall and runs up the valley joining Trade street near the Peoples Service Station. The deal was made through C. R. Blanton. Gold Coins Thomas L. Elder, an expert on the Bechtler coinage states the two rarest North Carolina Gold Coins are the $2 1-2 coin of “Rutherford County” bearing the word “Assayer” and the Five dollar piece bearing the words “Rutherford County" and 165 G" or Grains. These are the two coins which have sold for the highest prices and are the ones most sought after by coin collectors. They were struck sometime between 1831 and 1834 at Rutherfodton. Mr. Elder offers two hundred dollars for the $2 1-2 piece and S3OO for the $5. The rarest gold dollar struck by the Bechtlers was the one issued by C. Bechtler bearing the mark of “30 G” or Grains. This was the first gold dollar ever issued in the United States. To Extend City Water Mr. Herbert Beck will soon lay all-4 inch water line from the Pacolet river bridge to his place in the Valley.
