Railroad Trestle On Fire
*
The Fall Creek trestle on the Southern Railroad between
Tryon and Saluda caught on fire, presumably from hot coals
from the engine ash box, yesterday afternoon about 3 o’clock.
The fire was eating into the trestle cross ties when seen by
Miller King, colored, who immediately told Mr. W. W. Capps.
Mr. Rob Capps rushed to the depot and notified local railway officials
who promptly put our the flames and thus avoided a serious wreck. Local
officials stated that the railroad company deeply appreciated the splendid
spirit shown by Messrs. Capps, and Miller King. A

Rev. Jenkins, Kiwanis Speaker
Rev. E, B. Jenkins, of Rutherfordton, world traveller and Chautauqua
lecturer, spoke at the Tryon Kiwanis meeting today noon at Mimosa Inn.
His subject was the “Future Peril of America” which he believed is the
spreading propaganda of Communism sent out by the Soviet govern
ment from Russia. This influence is permeating our industries, schools,
colleges and other public organizations to the detriment of our ideals
and business. Mr. Jenkins is now conducting a revival at the Mill Spring
Baptist church. V
