Railroad Trestle On Fire * The Fall Creek trestle on the Southern Railroad between Tryon and Saluda caught on fire, presumably from hot coals from the engine ash box, yesterday afternoon about 3 o’clock. The fire was eating into the trestle cross ties when seen by Miller King, colored, who immediately told Mr. W. W. Capps. Mr. Rob Capps rushed to the depot and notified local railway officials who promptly put our the flames and thus avoided a serious wreck. Local officials stated that the railroad company deeply appreciated the splendid spirit shown by Messrs. Capps, and Miller King. A Spartanburg Rofarians Here The Spartanburg Rotary dub meets today at Camp Rotary on Lake Lanier. The Rotary boy scouts will entertain with supper and campfire program. Revival At Landrum The Landrum Baptists are holding revival services twice a day this week. Every morning at 8 o’clock and in the evening at 8. Rev. C. H. Mount of Greenville is assisting the pastor, Rev. A. C. Odom. Jhe pub lic is invited. Yesterday morning Dr. Mount had the misfortune to lose control of his car which turned over several times and did considerable damage to the automobile, but only scratched the ministers head. County Taxes Lowered At a meeting of the Polk County Commissioners yesterday, the county tax rate was reduced from $2.15 to $2.10 on the hundred dollars valuation. • v -v> - Rev. Jenkins, Kiwanis Speaker Rev. E, B. Jenkins, of Rutherfordton, world traveller and Chautauqua lecturer,spoke at the Tryon Kiwanis meeting today noon at Mimosa Inn. His subject was the “Future Peril of America” which he believed is the spreading propaganda of Communism sent out by the Soviet govern ment from Russia. This influence is permeating our industries, schools, colleges and other public organizations to the detriment of our ideals and business. Mr. Jenkins is now conducting a revival at the Mill Spring Baptist church. V No. 161
