C., TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1930. Vol. 3. Morrou) Schools’ Reunion A reunion of the students and friends of the D. F. Mor rv row schools of Polk county will be held Saturday, August 4f 16th at Columbus beginning at 10 a. m. Judge D. F. Mor k row of Rutheriordton taught school from 1882 to 1888 at Columbus, Mill Spring, Saluda and Tryon. All students of the schools taught at that time by Judge Morrow are invited to bring their lunches and friends and spend a day in reminiscence of the "good old school days of the eighties”. The following former students make up the com mittee on arrangements and program: Hon. E. B. Cloud and Mr. Frank Burgess of Columbus, Mrs. Lizzie Nelson Green of Tryon, Mr. Horsac Thompson, Saluda, O. T. Waldrop and Mrs. Mattie Edwards Gray of Rutherfordton. Kiwanis Form Programs The Tryon Kiwanis club today had the pleasure of hear ing three good speeches. Dr. W. A. Ayers ot Forest City spoke on leadership of Kiwanis in many communities where civic work is done. Mr. J. R. Sams, pioneer demonstration agent of _ Polk county and well-known authority on grasses spoke on the need of turning Polk county into a great dairy section. He exhibited a *** number of grasses pulled up from the sidewalk in Columbus. He said that was evidence that grass will grow well in this country. Some of the grasses were for grazing and some for hay, thus making it possible for a dairy. Miss Florence Cox gave a talk on the excellent work being done by the girls’ 4-H clubs in the county. Polk county this year will repre sent North Carolina in the national encampment to be held in Massa chusetts. Julia Jones of Saluda will be Polk (bounty’s representative. She has done six years of excellent 4-H club work and has an outstanding record of leadership. John Artz had charge of the program. Other gueSts were Farmer Geo. Hutcherson, Dr. John A. Brunson, Attorney M. R. McCown, Mr. Frank Arthur. Repairing Lynn Baptist Church The Lynn Baptist church is undergoing repairs. Part of the foundation is being rebuilt and concrete sidewalks built.
