Vol. 4 Saluda School Closes Asheville Citizen t SALUDA, May 9. The commencement of the Saluda public school * ended Friday night with the graduating exercises of the high school. The Rev. J. B. Clark, pastor of the Tryon Congregational church, delivered an inspiring address to the graduating class. Other exercises of the even gf ing consisted of choruses by boys and by girls and the class song by the class. The diplomas were awarded by P. S. White, county superintendent of schools. Certificates of perfect attendance for the year were awarded by L. A. Gossett, principal of the school, to 18 high school students. On the night before he aWarded 19 such certificates to grammar school students. \ National Hospital Day, Tuesday Tomorrow is National Hospital Day, and in common with other hos pitals of the country, St. Luke’s Hospital of Tryon will be open to the public for inspection from 2 to 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Members of the Board of Trustees, of the Medical Staff, and of the Women’s Board will be at the hospital to direct visitors about the building and tell them of the work. All are welcome. Countg Nurse Arrives N Miss Emily Passmore, County nurse, representing the American Woman’s / ) Hospitals Association has arrived in Tryon to take up her work fat tjie coming year. She will live in the north duplex of the Brown AptsJbn Walnut St. Her office will be maintained in the Courthouse. Crowd Attends Funeral Funeral service for Mr. George Smith who was killed Friday was held - yesterday afternoon at the home. Rev. Chas. B. Trammel officiated. The pallbearers were the following ex- service men: Louis Lindsey. C.A.Fisher, Prince Clark, E.G.Ballew, Leland Butler, Ralph S. Jackson. Burial in Tryon cemetery. Chorus Practice Tonight The first “Flapper Chorus” practice will be held tonight at ihe School *• house. The play has been rehearsed regularly for the past week. Est. 1-31-28
