Health Entries Chosen Asheville Times COLUMBUS, June 10.—Miss Emily Passmore, public health nurse of Polk county, representing the American Women’s Hospitals’ associa tion, in cooperation with Miss Florence Cox, home demonstration agent of Polk county, has recently completed a health examination of 139 4-H Club girls in the county. Out of this number, 12 girls have been select ed to represent the 1 2 girls’ clubs in a county-wide 4-H club health con test to be held at St. Luke’s hospital, Tryon, at 3 o’clock Saturday, June 20. In this contest, each girl will be given a thorough physical examina tion by competent physicians and carefully scored. The girl receiving the highest score will enter the district contest later. The winner there will enter the State contest at Raleigh in August. In case a club had no eligible member Miss Passmore selected two from some other club. Those who will represent their dubs at the county contest June 20 are: Green Creek club. Misses Naomi Cantrell and Vernele Barnette; Green River club, Miss Maude McMurry; Hickory Grove club, Miss Edith Bostic; Lynn club, Miss Ina Fisher; Mill Spring club, Miss Dorothy Lynch; New Hope club, Miss Lois Hines; Red Mountain club, Miss Ruby Coin; Saluda clubs, Misses Nellie Revis, Louise Jones, Eunice Revis; and Sunny View club, Miss Celia Whitesides. Edith Preston in Tennis Meet Miss Edith Preston of Tryon is playing in the Mid-Dixie tennis cham pionship contest at Spartanburg. Yesterday she defeated Bettie Hutchins of Spartanburg 6-2, 6-4. This morning at 10 o’clock she and C.A. Light ner were to play in mixed doubles against Mary Alexander and Gordon Blackwell. This afternoon at 3:30 she plays in singles againsf Julia Pick ens of Charlotte, second ranking player of the south. 4 George Morton Dead The founder and editor for 20 years of Tryon’s first newspaper, “The Tryon Bee”, died this morning following a lingering illness. Besides his widow, two children survive: Mrs. John W. Meshko of Staten Island, N. Y. and Mrs. James Edney of Tryon. Funeral services will probably be held Sunday afternoon at the Congregational church with Dr. Clark officiating. The deceased came to Tryon in 1886 and had been active in civic and social affairs of the community. Est. 1-31-28
