C. under the Act of Congress, March 3, 1879 Hetiltr flttUrtin Vol. 4 Man Drowns in Lake Spartanburg Kerald Paul Simpson, well known young business man of Spartanburg, was drowned in Lake Lanier late Thursday afternoon. When wading he step ped suddenly into a deep basin. Companions on the fishing trip, O. T. Gallman, jr. and J. H. Sudduth, made every effort to bring him to shore and to revive him immediately on the recovery of the body. Dr. Earl Grady, of Tryon, who was called to the scene, said that there was no y evidence of heart trouble and that either drowning or cramps was the cause of his death. The accident occurred about 4:30 and the body was recovered within 20 minutes. Members of the Boy Scouts on the lake tried for more than two hours to revive him. There was no pulmotor in Tryon, it was said. Mr. Simpson, Mr. Gallman and Mr. Sudduth left the city for Lake Lanier at about 11:30 a.m., arrived at the lake at about 12:30, and, after fishing for a while, ate lunch on the shore. Simpson is said to have gone into the water within 15 minutes of eating lunch. His companions said that he dropped suddenly beneath the surface without uttering an outcry and that his body did not once rise to the surface after he first disap peared. The accident occurred in the channel of the second basin of the lake, near its head and some distance from the bathing beach. ft Stolen Car Recovered • A Pontiac car was stolen from Ed Crowe at Soumerco about six weeks ago. This week officers from Columbus, Ga. reported they had round it, an< l Mr. Crowe went there and brought it back last night. Local officers made an extensive campaign to recover the car by iuforming all police in this section. To Put Tryon On Air A plan is on foot to advertise Tryon over the Spartanburg Radio station with a program put on by a number of business houses here. Details will be given out as soon as the arrangements are complete. Baseball Tomorrow • Much interest is being shown in the baseball game to be played tomor row afternoon at Harmon Field for two reasons.
