Mr. Dave Pate Buried Mr.D.W.Pate died Saturday night at the hospital following several weeks suffering from injuries received when he ) stepped in front of Miss Helen Morgan's auto. Funeral Sunday P. M., Tryon cemetery. Rev. Chas. Trammel officiated. Pall bearers: J.M, Early, John Panther, James Lankford, Jesse Rhodes, John Fisher, M.C. Palmer. Mr. Pate was a Spanish-American War veteran. About 60 years old. Came here from Tennessee about 35 years ago and settled on a farm in the Valley. His widow survives him. Polk Girl Health Winner x Miss Celia Whitesides of Sunny view 4-H club was given first place in the Western Carolina 4-H health contest Saturday at St. Lukes hospital. Horace Brannon of Green Creek took first place apoag the boys and Walden Thompson of Columbus tied for second place. The first place winners will go to Raleigh to compete for state places. Miss Whitesides’ score was 99 and Brannonjs 99 1-4. Train Kills Polk Man t, Ralph Rollins of near Melrose, died yesterday morning in a Hendersonville hospital where he was taken following injuries re ceived when a train hit him while he was sitting on the end of a cross tie. The engineer said that Rollins had his face down in his hands. He blew his whistle and put on the emergency brakes but could not stop the train in time to avoid hitting him.
