Entered as second-class mail matter August 20, at the Post Office at Tryon, N. C. under the Act of Congress, March 3, 1879 Begun Jiailg bulletin Vol. 4 TRYON, NC. MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1931. Est. 1-31-28 Fire Prevention Week This is fire prevention week. Last year we ran that statement nearly every day during fire prevention week. It happened that one day during that week the old Shields place burned down and the local fire truck couldn’t get up the bill near the Bulletin office. Some one coupled the two statements together and mailed them to the Literary Digest. Tryon has an encellent volunteer fire department and the loss % property from fire here has been very small in comparison with other towns. Chief Wilson put out posters this morning showing that North Carolina has a yearly loss from fire of $20,000,000. Regular inspection has done much to keep down fires in Tryon. Chief Wilson says preven tion is better than the core and that people should be careful in burning rubbish or putting ashes in wooden boxes. World Series % St. Louis 5; Philadelphia 2 ended the game todag. Pitchers; Grimes for St. Louis, Grove and Mahaffeg for Philadelphia. Simmons hit a home ran in 9th.
