Inter-state Highway Discussed
RUTHERFORDTON, Oct. 28 ..An inter-state highway system cross
ing Rutherford, Cleveland and Poik counties and connecting the two
Carolinas was discussed by E.B. Jefftess, chairman of the North Carolina
State Highway Commission, and Charles O. Heaton, chairman of the
South Carolina State Highway department at a conference here today.

Hilertj Bishop Buried
'* Landrum, Oct. 28... Funeral services for Hilery Bishop, 7-yeas-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. Furman Bishop who died in a Spartanburg hospital
Tuesday afternoon while undergoing an operation, were held at the First
Baptist Church here Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by the Rev.
Mr. Meadows. Burial was in the church cemetery. He is survived by his
parents, three brothers and two sisters. Spartanburg Herald.
Rutherford Hus County Manager
Rutherfordton, N. C, Oct. 28... George H. Blanton, chairman of the
Board of County Commissioners of Rutherford, has been appointed
county manager of Rutherford County under die laws of North Carolina.
Since die county highway commission hqi hem abolished and the county
comnnssionecs only hold two meetings a month it was deemed wise for
the county to have a manager. Mr. Blanton is allowed the pay of a
County commissioner, $4 a day and mileage. This is the first time
Rutherford has operated under the manager plan. Spartanburg Herald.
