World Series Tomorrow The World Series in baseball begins Wednesday afternoon in New York with the Chicago Cubs. The usual radio audience will fill Tryon stores when the games are broadcast. Mrs. Baker Dies Suddenly Mrs. Ellis C. Baker, 63, mother of Mrs. Theodore D. /ervey, died at 2 o’clock this afternoon following a sudden stroke about 9 o’clock this morning. A short service will be held here Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Episcopal church. The body will be taken to Talladega,Ala, for burial. Mrs. Baker had made many friends here during the past seven years she has visited Tryon. She is survived by the following children: L. C, Baker, Mrs. O. H, Dunn, Mrs. J. W. Perkins, all of Alabama and Mrs. T. D. Jervey and James M s Baker both of Tryon, We Mast Reduce Cost of Goc’memt Sayi. eJ.W.Pless Solicitor J, Will Pless was the chief speaker at Kiwanis today and told of the mounting cost of government due to Veterans Pensions from all wars. Mr. Pless, an ex-service man, believed in helping the man who suffered in the war, but does not believe in buying patriotism by dishing out money to the man who never received a scratch. He urg ed the Kiwanis club to start a check on useless spending by the govern ment. J.W. Goodman of Raleigh spoke a few minutes and urged more education in government. 1 Dead; 1 Injured; Auto Wrecked Richard Sanders, 20, colored, step-son of Arthur Suber is dead and will be buried at Newberry, S. C. Robert Camp, 24, also colored, is in the hospital severely injured as the result of a Ford roadster plunging into Pacolet gorge this side of Melrose this morning about 4 o’clock.
