C., TUESDAY, JAN. 1, 1935 Vol. 7 Ted Ballenger Explains Ted Ballenger, who recently op erated the Carolina Supreme Ser vice Station, has an advertisement in today’s Bulletin explaining why he gave up his lease to R. C. Bur nette and P, L. Barnette. Mr. Ballenger has not yet announced his future plans. SALUDA NEWS By Philip Heatherly Mrs. Vernie M. Austin comes to Saluda high school to take up the position left vacant by the resig nation of Rev. H. Cary-Elwes. She will teach mathematics and history. Mrs. Austin has permanent resi dence at Rhodhiss, N. C. She is a graduate of Muskigum college, and is a specialist in mathematics. We are glad to welcome her into the school organization, and trust that her stay in Saluda will be pleasant. The Saluda high schoojl boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will play-the Inman. S. C., high school teams Friday night at Inman. So far the Saluda boys have played seven games and won all seven. The girls have played seven games and have won three of them. The Saluda teams will meet the Central High teams of Rutherford ton Tuesday at Saluda. Mid-term examinations come on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. (N 0.179) Standard Service Station The Standard Service Station formerly operated by R. C. Bur nette is now temporarily in charge of Clarence Edwards, who has been with the company for some time. Basketball Tonight The double - header basketball game tonight between the Tryon high school graduates former stars, and the present high school team, promises to be full of excite ment. Edith Preston,, former high school star played against Inman a few days ago and shot over 40 points. The admission of 10 and 15 cents is a low price just to see her play according to local experts. Citizen Dies Mrs. M. J. Kell, a resident of Tryon for several years, passed away this morning at the Kell ap artments. Funeral services Wed nesday afternoon at 3:30 at Mc- Farland’s Funeral Home. New Year’s Dance Was Delightful Affair The annual New Year’s dance given jointly, by Oak Hall hotel and Pine Crest Inn last night was said to be the most elaborate affair of its kind ever given in Tryon. Good music, beautiful decorations, souvenirs and delicious refresh ments aided tremendously in ring ing in the New Year with joy and happiness. v Est. 1-31-28
