JAN. 3. 1935 Est. 1-31-28 HENRY M. BRAY TAKEN BY DEATH AT TRYON HOME Tryon, Jan. 2. Henry Martin Bray, prominent resident of Tryon and for a number of years treas urer of the Church of the Holy Cross (Episcopal) here, died at 1:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at his home following an illness of several months. The funeral services will be held at the Church of the Holy Cross Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock with burial in the Tryon cemetery. Offi ciating will be the rector, the Rev. C. P. Burnett, assisted by Bishop Frank Hale Touret of Tryon. Mr. Bray came to Tryon from Racine, Wis., about 25 years ago. For a number of years he was prominently connected with the Lynn Hosiery Mill, but retired sev eral years ago. While serving as treasurer of the Church of the Holy Cross he was referred to as the most efficient treasui'er in the Western North Carolina diocese. Surviving are his widow and one daughter, Mrs.' Edwin S. Lindsey, wife of a member of the faculty of the University of Chattanooga. The honorary pallbearers will be Edward W. Frost and Dr. Earle Grady. Active pallbearers will be: F. P. Bacon, Dr. M. C. Palmer, Dr. A. J. Jervey, G. H. Holmes, Julian Cal houn, Major Sharp, D. S. Blois and W. A. Dobbyn. Interment private. —Asheville Citizen. Brotherhood Meet The Wesley Brotherhood will meet this evening at 7 o’clock in the Methodist church dining-room. The Woman’s Missionary society will serve the dinner and an inter esting and enjoyable meeting is expected. At Rotary The Tryon Rotary club will meet Friday at 1 n. m. at Oak Hall with Dr. B. B. Bishop in charge of an unusual program. A number of local people report having felt the earthquake early Tuesday morning which seems to have been general throughout this section with severe shocks in Cali fornia, Mexico, Hawaii, India. Miss Hayes. English teacher of Tryon school, was in an auto wreck last week and was not able to resume her work here when school opened Thursday morning, but she is expected back on Mon day. 1,300 people have been arrested in North Carolina during the past two days for not having 1935 auto license plates. The U. S. Congress opened to day noon ih Washington and Congressman Byrns from Tennes see was elected speaker to succeed the late Speaker Henry T. Rainey. WEATHER —Fair and colder Friday.
