C., SATURDAY, JAN. 5, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Columbus Bank Pays 38 Per Cent Dividend Depositors in the old Polk Coun ty Bank & Trust Company receiv ed thirty-eight percent dividend checks this week. The tutal amounted to $4,574.03. This was the first and final payment and closed the affairs of the bank. I OBITUARIES | CLINGAN, Mrs. Katherne L., wife of Charles E. Clingan, passed away early this morning at St. Luke’s hospital following an ill ness of several weeks. Funeral services will be held Sunday after noon at 3 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Cross, with the Rev. C. P. Burnett, officiating. Interment in Tryon cemetery. Mrs. Clingan was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Flavel Mines, and she was a frequent visitor to Tryon in the homo of her sister, Mrs. Bacon, and for the past six years had made Tryon her , permanent residence. She was prominent in many social and civic affairs of the community. MANSFIELD, Mrs. I. H., a resident of Tryon for the past four years, passed away last evening at her home on Godshaw Hill. She had been in ill health for some time. The remains will be sent to Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday for private burial. There will be no services in Tryon. The deceased is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frank W. Wardwell of Tryon and a son, Howard T*. Mansfield, of Cleveland. COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED FOR PRESIDENT’S DALL The. General Committee has been appointed to promote a successful President’s Ball in Tryon on Janu ary 30th. in honor of the President of the United States and for the benefit of underprivileged infantile paralysis people. Bacon; Business Men; Ralph C. Erskine; County Officials, C. O. Cooper; Lanier club, Mrs. George Brockenbrough; Innkeepers’ Association, Mrs. L. L. Meegan; Town Officials, E. E. Mis sildine; Garden club, Miss Mae I. Flentye; Riding & Hunt club, Carter P. Brown. Other committees will be an nounced later. Noted Doctor Here Dr. Iva Miller of New York, a guest of Dr. Rosa Gantt, addressed the Polk County Medical Society last night at |the home of Dr. Gantt. She showed interesting moving pictures of her work in China and in this country. Dr. Miller was a medical missionary in China for a number of years and since her return to this country she has been engaged in public health work.
