C., MONDAY, JAN. 7, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 BIG WEDDING The outstanding event of Tryon today is the Grady-Crandall wed ding which takes place at six o’clock at the Church of the Holy Cross when Miss Elizabeth Grady, daughter of Dr. Earl Grady will become the wife of Mr. Harold W. Crandall, son of Mr. Frank W. CLandall.. weeks of preparation and the many beautiful presents have been the topic of conversa tion. for days. BASKETBALL LEAGUE On Wednesday at 7:30 at the Tryon Gymnasium there will be a meeting -of all people inter ested in forming a basketball league of the following teams: Merchants team —J. V. Hall, manager. Southern Mercerizing Co.—D. S. Blois, manager. Fire Department team—Dr. B. Bishop and Walton Glover, Mgrs. Manufacturing and Service In dustries —C. M. Eargle, manager. Other teams will be formed if there is enough interest shown. These teams are to play every Thursday night at the Tryon Gym. A percentage standing of each team will be posted each week. MAY LECTURE HERE Dr. Edwin Barlow Evans. Phd., L.L.D., of Limestone college, Gaff ney, S. C., who lectured recently at the Lanier library on the ele ments of literature, can be secured to deliver a series of lectures in Tryon every Thursday afternoon for eight weeks. Anyone interest ed should telephone Mrs. S. T. Orapo, phone 216, as soon as pos sible. FIRE SUNDAY Tryon firemen were called out Sunday afternoon to extinguish a small fire in the home of E. W. Upton where a wood box near a stove caught on fire. The damage was not large. A hole was burned in the floor. BASKETBALL TONIGHT Tryon and Columbus boys and girls basketball teams will play Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Try on gymnasium. This is expected to be very exciting and draw a large audience. John Calhoun Williams, 24 of Columbus and Miss Lois Fisher of Lynn, were married Saturday in Spartanburg. The groom is a son of John N. Williams.
