Father of W. L.
Burnett Buried
W. L. Burnett has returned from
lower Spartanburg county where
he attended the funeral yesterday
of his father, R. C. Burnett, age
87, who died Wednesday. If Mr.
Burnett had lived until March
9th he would have celebrated his
G9th wedding anniversary. The
deceased was one of Spartanburg
county’s most prominent citizens
and had been active nearly all his
life. He was a grandfather of R.
C. Burnett of Tryon.
Lecture Next Week
The lecture course by Dr. Edwin
Barlow Evans will start next
Thursday, January 17, at the Lan
ier Library at 4 p. m. The sub
jects announced so far are: “Psy
chological Forces in Fiction,”
“Great Modern Novels’”, “Robert
Browning, the Historian of the
Soul,” “Shakespeare, the Glory and
Tragedy of the Anglo-Saxon,”
“John Brown’s Body” or “The
Magic Mountain,” “Life Studies in
Modern Drama,” “The Philosophy
o f Contemporary Literature,”
“Poetry; The Dance of Life.” Two
dollars per person wilL pay for
the entire course of eight lectures.

BASKETBALL LEAGUE
A very successful start was
made on organizing a basketball
league Wednesday night at the
Tryon gymnasium. About 35
young men were present and they
showed much interest in the or
ganization of teams.
These teams will play every
Thursday night.
Four teams have been organized:

moved his shoe shop to Tryon in the
building formerly occupied by the
Tryon Daily Bulletin under the
