C., SATURDAY, JAN. 12, 1935 Mrs. M. T. Cobb Passes Charles T. Cobb of Valley Falls, N. Y., writes that his mother, Mrs. Mate T. Cobb, of Melrose, N. Y., but formerly of Polk county and wife of a former publisher of The Polk County News, died at the age of 89 on January sth and was buried January Bth at Elwood cemetery, Schaghticoke, N. Y. Mrs. Cobb was interested in Polk county friends until the end and kept up with them by subscription to The Polk County News. Prince at Rotary A rector, a Bishop and a Prince conducted the Tryon Rotary club program Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall hotel. The rector, was the president, Rev. C. P. Burnett, who presided. The Bishop was Dr. B. B. Bishop, who had charge of the program. The Prince, was Hoyt 0. Prince, special insurance agent, who gave an enlightening talk on life insurance, outlining the history, resources, liabilities and investments of life insurance companies and the part they have in helping business, industry and individual policy holders. Bishop Here Bishop Robert E. Gribbin, S. T.,; D. D., of the Diocese of-Western North Carolina, will preach Sun day morning at 11 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Cross, Episco pal. (NO.189) Killed by Airplane Crash \ William Simpson Jackson, 18, son of the late W. M. Jackson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and grandson of Mrs. Amelia Jackson of Mill Bpring, diied this morning at 9 o’clock at a St. Petersburg hos pital as the result of injuries re ceived yesterday morning about 9:30 when an airplane in which he was riding crashed to the earth. The deceased was the only child of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Jackson of Tryon left Friday for St. Petersburg as soon as they learned of the accident. Today’s Headlines Bitsy Grant, the little tennis player, who has played In Tryon a number of times on the C. P. Rogers court, licked Sidney B. Wood, the No. 1 Davis Cup player, yesterday at Miami, Fla. The score was 8-6, 6-1, 6-0. Tilden and Vines continue to beat Lott and Stoefen in professional doubles matches. Tilden, Vines and Lott played in Tryon last year. Amelia Earhart is off on flight across Pacific ocean from Honolulu to California. Mme. Sembrich, famous opera singer, died at her home in New York yesterday. She was 76 years old. ’ Mrs. Charles Hutchins of Burns ville is the only woman member of the North Carolina legislature. Hauptmann’s hand wrote all the Lindbergh ransom notes, ex pert declares. Est. 1-31-28
