C„ TUESDAY, JAN. 15, 1935 Est. 1-31-23 Annual Meeting, Holy Cross Ch. Dr. Earle Grady, Mr. F. W. Crandall, and Mr. J. C. Kimberly were elected vestrymen to succeed Mr. Julian Calhoun, Mr. Samuel A. Bingham and Mr. Harold Crandall at the annual parish meeting of the Holy Cross church held Mon day evening. There are nine ves trymen of the parish, three retir ing each year. When the new vestry met 'to organize Dr. Grady was appointed senior warden and Mr. Crandall junior warden. Mr. F. P. Bacon was re-elected as treasurer of the parish and Mr. William C. Burnett re-elected clerk of the vestry. The treasurer’s re port showed all bills paid and a small balance in the. treasury with which to begin a new year. En couraging reports were also re ceived from the Woman’s Auxil iary, St. Agnes Guild, and the Sunday school. Badminton Revived By Tryon Sportsmen The Tryon school gymnasium has been marked off for Badmin ton under the auspices of the Tryon Tennis Association. Mem bers and their friends are invited to play free of charge every af ternoon and evening when the gym is not being used for regular school purposes. The net and posts are furnished. Birds and racquets may be ordered through J. G. Kinloch, Jr., at Missildine’s Phar macy. ' Country Club Elects Officers At the annual meeting of the Tryon Country club held at Oak Hall hotel on the evening of Janu ary 14th, 1935, the following di rectors were elected: Nelson Jack son, Jr., B. L. Ballenger, K. A. Bowen, J. C. Kimberly/ M'. A. Richards, F. P. Bacon, Julian Calhoun. The officers elected for the year 1935, are: M. A. Richards, presi dent; B. L. Ballenger, vice-presi dent; K. A. Bowen, secretary treasurer. The refinancing of the outstand ing 6% coupon bonds, accompan ied during the fall of 1934, was re viewed and approved. The Country club had an issue of $12,500 in bonds which fell due in 1934. With the unanimous con sent of the bond holders, a new issue of 5%, twenty year coupon bonds, callable in whole or in part at any interest date, was exchang ed for the old bonds of like amount. The Tryon Country club starts out the year 1935 with no obliga tions, except this funded debt, with all current bills paid, and money in the bank. The receipts of the club during 1934 were larger than any year since 1931, and the pros pects for the club’s activities dur ing 1935 are very promising. Basketball Thursday The Tryon Town basketball league will play ilts first games Thursday night at the Tryon school gym. The league teams are composed of merchants, industrial ists, firemen and professional men. Ad'mlission will be 10 and 15 cents.
