Rion, Sr., 56, who passed away early Wednesday morning, were held this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home on Grady avenue, with the Rey. D. M. McGeachy, officiat ing. Interment in Tryon ceme tery. The active pallbearers were C. W. Ballenger, W. A. Schilletter, R. S. Jackson, N. B. Jackson, 0. H. Hedrick, H. T. Camp. The honorary pallbearers: B. L. Ballen ger, J. B. Hester, Sr., G. E. Bell, M. A. Richards, Rev. C. P. Bur nett, J. C. Fisher, W. Y. Wilkins, Dr. Earle Grady. Hendersonville And Stearns Split Bill Columbus, Jan. 16.—Stearns and Hendersonville divided the honors in a double contest last night at Hendersonville, the Columbus girls downing the Hendersonville girls by a count of 31 to 16 while the Hendersonville boys won 31 to 27. —Asheville Citizen. W. G. T. U. Postponed The Tryon W. C. T. U. scheduled for this afternoon has been post poned until Tuesday, January 22, at 4 p. m. at the home of Mrs. L. A. Avant. E. B. Cloud Introduces Absentee Ballot Law Raleigh, Jan. 16. —Representa- tive E. B. Cloud, of Polk, who was denied the Democratic nomination because the state board of elections charged illegal use of the absentee ballot, has introduced a bill in the House to repeal the absentee bal lot law for.Polk county. His bill, referred to the commit tee on elections and election laws, headed by Sparger, of Stokes county, would prohibit the use of absentee ballots in both primary and general elections in Polk county.—Asheville Citizen. Basketball Results The first engagements of the Town basketball league took place Wednesday night at the Tryon gym when the Firemen’s team defeat ed the Merchants team 30-10, and the Small Industries group defeat ed the Southern Mercerizing-Lynn team 14-4. An enthusiastic crowd of spectators witnessed this initial performance of former players. Interest in the league is mounting iand promises to be one of Try on’s most active forms of recreation, which will include a larger num ber of men to benefit by it. Blois At Rotary Douglas S. Blois will have charge of the Rotary program Friday at 1 p. m. at Oak Hall.
