Last Night’s Games
Last night in two cracking good
basketball games the Soumerco-
Lynn team defeated the fasc Mer
chant team by a score of 21 to 30,
and the Industrial team took the
hard fighting Firemen team in tow
to the tune of 37 to 27. Both
games were filled with thrills
worthy of anyboy’s money. There
were many fouls called on all
sides, the Industrial team finally
bad to finish the game with fouV
players.

Mrs. Preston Passes
Mrs. Louis W. Preston, 52,
passed away this morning at 7
o’clock at St. Luke’s hospital fol
lowing a week’s illness. Funeral
services will be held this afternoon
at 3:30 at the Presbyterian church
with the Rev. D. M. McGeachy,
officiating. The remains will be
sent on the afternoon train to
Jacksonville, Fla., for interment.
The pallbearers here will be W.
A. Schilletter, Dr. J. E. Derby,
Nelson Jackson, Jr., J. S. Kell,
Robert Burnett and John David
McGeachy.
The deceased was one of Tryon’s
most beloved school teachers and -
active church workers. A native
of Ohio, she came to this commu
nity about 14 years ago from
Montreat, N. C., after spending
15 years in Florida. While there
she attended Rollins college at
Winter Park.
She is survived by two sons, Dr.
John Preston, an interne at Epis
copal hospital in Philadelphia,
Warrington Z. Preston a senior
at Erskine college, and one daugh
ter, Miss Edith Preston, director
of Physical education at Erskine
college. They will leave this af
ternoon for Jacksonville where
they will be met by Mrs. Preston’s
sisters and brother, Mrs.
Charles T. Paxton, Mrs. Fred
Hedrick and Mr. Walter Warring
ton, all of Jacksonville.
