Bacon Wins Flag Tournament The first of a series of tourna | ments at the Tryon Country club was won Saturday afternoon by F. P. Bacon with the ball n?ar the l-9th green. The cup for second prize was won by“ Lefty” Flynn with the ball about midway be tween the 19th tee and 19th green. Quite a number of business men B:nd visitors participated in the tournament and showed consider able enthusiasm. Next Saturday, February" 9th, another handicap tournament will be held. The tour nament is open to everybody. The trophies for Saturday’s tournament were donated by Nel son Jackson, Jr., chairman of the tournament committee. A ladies’ and gentlemen mixed tournament will be played some time in the near future. This will be a two-ball foursome. |)Monzo Rhodes’ Parole Cancelled Orders to arrest Alonzo Rhodes who escaped from the Rutherford prison camp a day before being granted a parole, have been receiv ed by Sheriff Newman of Polk county. Edwin Gill, parole commissioner, yesterday announced clemency had Continued on Back Page Clothing Specialist Visits In County Miss Willie Hunter of Raleigh, Extension Specialist in Clothing, addressed the women of Polk county at a meeting at the Kath erine Beatson Health House Fri day afternoon. Mias Hunter visits Polk county two or three times a year. She discussed the plans and organizations of the clubs so the greatest benefit could be gained during the club meetings of the study of the constructive work of clothing. Mass Hunter talked about and illustrated the making and finishing of garments. Miss Agnes McLeod, the new home dem onstration agent, will continue this work throughout the county. After the talk a social hour was ■enjoyed. Miss Young and Mrs. Bacon with the assistance of Mrs. Dailey and Mliss Helen Ingalls served delicious cookies and hot coffee. Tryon Boxers In Charlotte Vernon “Red” Brownlee, Tryon lightweight, boxes tonight in the Charlotte Golden Gloves tourna ment. N. R. Rector, Jr., Tryon featherweight, drew a bye and will box Tuesday.
