C., TUESDAY, FEB. 5, 1935 Miss Doubleday Elected Seventh Grade Teacher Miss Betty Doubleday of Tryon has been selected to succeed Mrs. Lois Preston as teafeher of the Tryon seventh grade. She will assume her duties on Wednesday morning. Miss Doubleday is a graduate of Tryon high school and of Wilson college at Chambersburg, Pa., where she was president of the Student Council. For the past three years she has been teaching in the public schools of North Carolina and is well-equipped for her work here. Republican Difficulties In The Legislature The following extracts from news items in the daily press in dicate that Republican members of the North Carolina legislature or those elected on that ticket have trouble in presenting legislation for their constituents: Representative George Head’s measure to reduce the Rutherford county board of commissioners from five to three members pre cipitated a fight before the com mittee. The committee voted an unfavorable report, mainly because the Democratic organization in Rutherford county opposed the bill sponsored by the Republican representative. TO BE FORMED A p-roup of citizens met at Mimo sa Inn Monday night for an in formal discussion of the work and needs of St. Luke’s hospital and to make plans for aiding the trus tees in carrying on the work here. As a result plans were laid for the formation of a Tryon Hospital Association to be composed of public spirited citizens interested in keeping the hospital going in Tryon. The provisional organiza tion will be set up by a committee composed of S. T. Wood, D. S. Blois, B. L. Ballenger, W. S. Green, R. S. Jackson, Miss Mae I. Flentye, K. A. Bowen, Ralph C. Eiskine and Rev. Ghas. G. Sewall. This committee will meet sometime this week and make further an nouncements. W. M. Hester, ia trustee of the hospital, was host last night at the supper and S. T. Wood presided over the meeting. Court Opens The Polk county Superior Court opened yesterday morning in Co lumbus with a large crowd pres ent. Notice All persons interested in having a business college come to Tiryon are requested to file their names this week with President S. T. Wood of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce. Est. 1-31-28
