C , WEDNESDAY, FEB. 6, 1935 Dr. Gantt at Kiwanis Dr. L. Rosa Gantt, head of the P-olk county unit of the American Woman’s Hospitals. Association, addressed the Tryon Kiwanis club Tuesday and gave a brief summary of the splendid work this oigani zation is doing to improve the health conditions of Polk county. Over 10,000 visits to children have been made and 15,000 defects found; 1,000 children of pre-school age were examined and visits made to 2,000 homes to give aid in any way possible to help people live cleaner, healthier, and happier lives. Mrs. S. C. Dailey, the A. W. H. head nurse, was also a guest of the club. Judge John M. Oglesby of* Cbn cord, presiding over the Polk county Superior court at Colum bus was the guest of Attorney M. R. McCown and gave a short, de lightful talk in which he praised the work of the A. W. H., the work Tryon people in general were do ing and especially the Boy Scouts, gand called the attention of the club the Scout cabin at Harmon Field - i oeing built under the direction of C. J. Lynch. Judge Oglesby said “There’s no better way to epipty jails of North Carolina than by putting the youth in Boy Scout work.” Thomas Costa, a native of Porto Rico, but recently of Cleveland, Ohio, who is building a home near Tryon,'joined the club yesterday as a new member. H. B. Vander hoef of Greenwich, Conn., and Dr. George F. Tiaylor were also guests. The Nancy Bomar Bible Class pa!rty that was to be held at the home of Mrs. Bollinger on Thurs day evening has been postponed until a later date. Frank Cox Weaver Funeral services for Frank Cox Weaver, 47, a native of Tryon, who died last Friday at Gainesville, Florida, were held Monday after noon at 3 o’clcok at McFarland’s Funeral Home. Rev. D. M. Me- Geachy officiated and the active pallbearers were as follows: Char les and Vincent Weaver of St. Louis, Mjo.; Frank Weaver of Chesnee, S. C., George Dean of Gainesville, Flat, Robert McFar land of Columbus, N. C., and W. J. Ford,. Tryon. Honorary pallbearers were P. G. Morris, M. C. Butler, Jack Gaze, W. B. Lawrence, Lonnie Hutcher son all of Tryon and Grady Green of Greer, S. C. Interment in Tryon cemetery. The deceased was a son of the late Geojrge G. and Mildred Clark Weaver of Tryon and is survived by one brother, John R. Weaver of St. Louis, and the following sis ters, Mrs. W. J. Ford of T!ryon; Mrs. E. B. Miatthews and Mrs. Mil dred MicCaull of Reidsville, N. C.; and Mrs. Vance Ross of Atlanta, all of whom attended the funeral services here. Also two children, Ruth and Frank Weaver, of New Orleans who were unable to be present. Mr. Weaver was chief electrician for the University of Florida at Gainesville where he had been for the past five years. Two new homes are being built in Gillette Woods. A brick bunga low is being constructed for Jerry D. Drew near the Judson’s. And a house is going up for Charles H. Conrad, near Miss Merrill’s. C. N. Sayre has the contract for both buildings.
