TO HEAR COLLEGE DEAN The Tryon Parent-Teacher asso ciation will enjoy one of the most interesting programs of the year Monday afternoon, when Miss lone Dunn, dean of Asheville Nor mal and Teachers’ college, will ad dress the group on “Education To ,/ay and Yesterday.” The meet ing will be held in the school audi torium at 3:30. During the social hour which follows the business meeting and program, refreshments will be served in the cafeteria by Mrs. Dale Little, Mrs. R. A. Leonard, Mrs. B. O. Byers and M'rs. Allen Jervey. The Man from Yonder A new serial story by Harold Titus, entitled, “The Man From Yonder”, was started in last week’s issue of The Polk Cbunty News. It ia a story of lumber camp life. 25 cents will send The Polk County News to anybody in the county for three months. \ BLACK EYE—Members of the Jfeneral Assembly often get in bad with the hom-e-folks by published accounts of short session of the House and Senate. Newspapers fail to record the hours that these same members spend in committee meetings ironing out the knots in legislation in order to avoid leng thy debate in general sessions. Many legislators are members of half-dozen or more committees and spend long hours going over bills in order that time may be saved when the general session convens. Two shovels have been found and left at City Manager Helm’s office. Owner may have them by identifying them and paying for this advertisement. Jackson’s Store Opens Saturday Jackson’s Store will move into new quarters Saturday and will close their temporary store Fri day noon in order to devote the af ternoon to making the change. The new quarters have been attractive ly arranged with modern shelves, counters, and electric fixtures. An advertisement in this week’s Polk County News invites the public to the opening on Saturday and offers a number of specials. To Everybody We want you to be our honor guest at the basketball games to night at 7:30 at the local high .school gymnasium. In order to see just what we are doing we are giving this night to you absolutely free of admission and urge that you come out and enjoy yourself at our expense. Therea re four teams in this league and all of us are local young men and boys en gaged in some manner of industry either for ourselves or someone else. There are no loafers on the teams, nor is any player a mem ber of some other basketball team. The purpose of the league is to reach the ones that ar einterested in the sport and don’t have a chance to play on some other or ganized team. Everybody is invit ed to be there regardless of where you live or what you do. '’The Industrials wall pßay the Firemen in basketball tonight at 7:30 at the gymnasium. Follow ing their game the Merchants and SoUmerco-Lynn will play. Norman Foster of Columbus had a tonsil operation today at St. Luke’s hospital.
