C., FRIDAY, FEB. 15, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Basketball Results ■.3 By eargle Last night in two hotly contest ed games the Firemen went down in defeat at the hands of the In dustrials by the score of 27 to 17, while the Merchants lost to the Soumerco-Lynn team 16 to 11. Jess Walker led the scoring for the Industrials while Jim Fisher led for the Firemen. J. C. Wil liams led for the Soumerco-Lynn team while Nelson Leonard led the Merchants. Both games were hard fought and well played. A good ■crowd of interested spectators witnessed the games. Wilson 1 Brownlee Butler—Sub Foster—Sub Referee —Caldwell (Newebrry). “Heaven Bound” Coming Again “Heaven Bound” an all negro cast, will be presented in Tryon at the Parish House on March 7, at 8 p. m., sponsored by the Woman’s Missionary society of the Metho dist church. Sorghum Syrup Wanted for Relief The federal surplus relief cor poration is in the market for 115,- 200 gallons of sorghum syrup for distribution as a surplus commodity among relief clients. The govern ment desires to purchase this pro duct in the communities where it can be handled advantageously Anyone having syrup may pos sibly find a market for such if they will leave the information with any of the relief offices. Purchases are to be of g|od grade, mild in flavor, not too dark, free from suspended materials, and free from dirt, packed in one gallon cans. No expenditures can be made by brokerage fees or commissions, as the syrup will be purchased direct from the producers. L_ Basketball Tonight A three-game basketball pro gram is scheduled for tonight at the Tryon gymnasium when the Tryon high school boys and girls play the Green Creek high school boys and girls, beginning at 7:30. Following the school games an all star game will be played between the men of Tryon and Green Creek communities The admission will be 10 and 15 cents. 300 Ladies’ Dresses A representative of a New York firm stated yesterday that he would be at Jackson’s store Satur day morning from 9 o’clock to 1 p. m., to exhibit 300 ladies’ dresses showing the latest styles in fash ionable ready-to-wear.
