It was a tiny wooden monkey carved from a peach seed by Tom Jones of Lynn. It was valued at 25 cents and paid for a three months’ subscription to The News. That may sound like monkey business to high finan ciers but there is a lesson in it for them. The principle that pro motes trade is the same whether it be a 25 cent monkey or a! $25,- 000,000 contract for cotton, oil lumber, etc. We could live with out the wooden monkey. The wood-carver could live without the Polk County News. But the edi tor wanted another new subscrib er. The wood-carver wanted to sell his monkey. So the trade was made. Brazil couldn’t buy our automobiles if we didn’t, buy their coffee. Japan couldn’t buy our cotton if we didn’t buy those little things at Buchanan’s that have “Made in Japan” printed on them. The honest, fair trader keeps the wheels moving and brings pros perity to everybody. To Meet At Mars Hill The strong Saluda quintet will meet the Columbus five at Mars Hill college on Wednesday night at 8 o’clock. The Saluda team had previously received an invita tion as the outstanding team of Polk county. But Columbus offi cials went to Mars Hill and talked with Coach Oren Roberts. Roberts advised Coach Egerton to play Columbus and Coach Egerton ac cepted Story's challenge. The win ner of this game is entitled to play in the Mars Hill tournament Thursday night.—Contributed.
