C., TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 193^ Vol. 8 ‘Heaven Bound’ On Thursday Tryon may not be dead but it will be “Heaven Bound” Thurs day night when the all-Negro cast \ of “Heaven Bound” will be present ed at the Parish House, sponsored by the Tryon Methodist Women’s Missionary society. The last time this Negro entertainment was brought to Tryon the performance was given at the public school auditorium to a packed house—the largest paid attendance ever seen in the local school. This musical religious pageant has been shown a number of times in many cities throughout this section and is so popular that it constantly gets re turn engagements. Marines Wanted Headquarters U. S. Marine Corps, has authorized the Savan nah District to accept thirty-three candidates for .service with that crack organization during the month of March. Headquarters of s this district are commanded by Major Louis Estell Fagan, U. S. M. C., and are at the Post Office Building, Savannah, Ga. Hugh -ey Talks Gen. Hugh Johnson in speech last night said that the nation was in grave danger. He urged the citizens to renew solidarity and avoid such leaders as Huey Long and Father Coughlin whom he termed Pied Pipers. He says Roosevelt averted a dictatorship for this country. He disagrees with some of Roosevelt’s methods but says that his leadership is our only hope at present. Concert Saturday Tryon music lovers are looking forward to the appearance of Rita Rozada Bement noted ljiezzo-con tralto who will sing Saturday evening at the Parish House under the auspices of the Concert com mittee of the Lanier club. Mrs. Bement was born in Canada of Spanish parentage. She is a daughter-in-law of Dr. Howard Bement, headmaster of the Ashe ville School. As a good audience is already assured by holders of season tick ets, visitors should purchase tick ets from Mr. R. T. Brooks as soon as possible. The Washington, D. C., News stated that Mrs. Bement was one of the chief stars of the Washing ton Civic Opera Co. And the Washington Post praised her acting ability as well as the beauty of her voice which carries so excel lently the delightful melodies of Spain. Basketball Tonight The Hendersonville all-stars men and women basketball teams will play the business men and women’s teams of Tryon tonight at the Tryon school gymnasium. Tryon business men’s team is composed of Jess and John Walker, Jim Fisher, Nelson Leonard, Wofford Foster, Fred Swann, Ver non Hall, G. H. Jones and J. E. Brownlee. The Tryon team lost to Brevard last night at Brevard by one point -36-35. Est. 1-31-23
