Garden Club Meet
Is Very Delightful
A large number of member? of
' the Tryon Garden club and sev
eral. visitors enjoyed a delight
ful meeting Wednesday afternoon
at the home of the Misses Anne
and Diana Nash. The annual plant
exchange was held, and proved ex
ceptionally successful. The talk
of the day was made by Miss
Diana Nash and was on “Flower
ing Shrubs.”
The principal business was the
unanimous! decision of the club
to sponsor an entertainment on
April 13 in order to help the color
ed people of the community to
raise funds for a playground and
swimming pool. The land for the
recreation ground and pool has al
ready been donated, in the region
of the principal colored section of
town, and the Garden club is plan
ning to help in raising money for
the dam.
) The program on the evening of
April 13 will be given in the Parish
House and will consist of songs
by the children of the negro
school, and old-time spirituals by
the adult colored people.

ciation reports the names of the
following givers whose contribu
tions have been received since last
week: Nelson Jackson, Jr., Waver

Mrs. Elizabeth Justice, Miss Cora

and one annonymous gift.
WOMAN’S GOLF
TOURNAMENT
ON FRIDAY
The first woman’s golf tourna
ment at the Tryon Country club
will be held Friday (tomorrow).
Nine holes will be played. All wo
men are invited to participate and
are requested to call Larry Brooks,
the golf professional, in order to.
arrange for handicaps. A woman’s
tournament will be held every Fri
day during the spring season.
HUNT CLUB
PICNIC AT
ROCKY SPUR
The Tryon Riding & Hunt club
is sponsoring a picnic ride to be
held Friday morning at Rocky
Spur. Horseback riders will leave
Oak Hall at 10:30. Motorist? will
depart at 11:45. Each gffest must
bring his or her own sandwiches.
The club will furnish steaks and
coffee. Anyone desiring to go
should telephone 102 as soon as
possible.
10 Polk Graduates
From WCT College
Cullowhee, March 18. Since
Western Carolina Teacher? college
was founded in 1889, it has turned
out as graduates 913 young men
and young women. Os these, 10
were from Polk county as follows:
