Opera Today
Giacomo Puccini’s ever popular
opera “La Boheme” will be broad
cast in its entirety over station
WWNC today as the concluding
Jfcrformance in this season’s Met-
Jjpolitan Opera broadcasts. Lucre
zia Bari, famous soprano, will be
heard in the role of “Mimi”, and
Geraldine Farrar, former Metro
politan Opera prima donna, will
serve as the raconteuse. The
broadcast will begin at 1:55
o’clock.
“La Boheme” will complete the
fourth season of Metropolitan
Opera over NBC networks. Cincen
zo Bellezza will conduct and the
opera will be sung in Italian.
Hope for Life of
Howe Abandoned
Washington, March 22. All
hope for the recovery of Louis Mc-
Henry Howe, first secretary to
President Roosevelt, was abandon
) tonight by attending physicians.
Howe’s condition became more
grave when complications set in.
He suffered an attack of pleurisy
in addition to the bronchial and
cardiac attacks which hent him
to his bed more than a week ago.

Harvard Dean to
Speak at Meeting

Dr. David L. Edsall, dean of the
medical school of Harvard Univer
sity, will address members of the
Spartanburg Oounty • Hedical So
ciety Monday night at 7:30 o’clock
at the home of Dr. William Sheri
dan in Park Hills.
A visitor at Tryon at present on
a vacation, Dr. Edsall was born in
1869 in Hamburg, N. J.
v He graduated from Princeton
University in 1890, and was pro
fessor of therapeutics at the Uni
versity of Pennsylvania during
1907-10, where he remained as pro
fessor of medicine in 1910-11.
At that time he was appointed
professor of clinical medicine at
Harvard. He has been dean of
Harvard since 1918.
He is the author of various ar
ticles in scientific journals and
systems.
He is a member 9f the American
Association of Physicians and oth
er distinguished organizations.
A large attendance is expected
at the meeting Monday.—Spartan
