Wilcox Wins Tourney
Frank S. Wilcox of Union, S.
C., won the President’s cup at the
m 4-yon Country club Saturday when
played off a tie with B. B.
Bishop, Sr., of Inman; S 0., and
J. C. Kimberly of Neenah, Wis.
Mr. Wilcox’s score was 89, handi
cap 17, net 72;, Mr. Bishop 96,
handicap 20. net 76; Mr. Kimberly
105, handicap 25, net 80. The beau
tiful cup donated by President M.
A. Richards was given back to the
club by Mr. Wilcox in order to
have it played for again. The
winner of it in three successive
tournaments will be given tie cup
permanently.
Kiwanis Tuesday
L. W. Smith, a member of the
staff of the local Emergency Relief
Administration will address the
Tryon Kiwanis club on Tuesday
Alp. m., at Edgewood Inn.
Spring Painting
The Southern Public Utilities
office front is being painted today.
It may be a sea-green when it is
finished. The surface of the brick
is rough. The electric sign re
flected on this new color will
brighten the entire block at night.
Baseball Meeting
All fans and others interested in
a baseball team, for Tryon are in
vited to meet tonight at 7:30 at
the Tryon Town Hall.
Scout Jubilee to Be
Held At Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill, N. C., March 25.
More than 1,000 Scouts represent
ing communities in every section
of North Carolina, will gather at
the University of North Carolina,
April 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th,
to hold a jubilee in celebration of
the 25th anniversary of Scouting.
Dr. James E. West, Chief Scout
Executive of the Boy Scouts of
America and Governor J. C. B.
Ehringhaus will attend the cele
bration and will be among the
speakers. Dr. Frank P. Graham,
president of the Greater Univer
sity, is among others scheduled for
addresses. Special guests by invi
tation will be members of the
Legislature and the Presidents of
all Scout Councils of the State.
The celebration will be open to the
public.
Basketball Tonight
Saluda and Tryon boys and girls
will play tonight at 8 o’clock at
the Tryon gymnasium. This will
be the last game the local boys
will play on the home court this
season and a big crowd is expected.
Wilcox Wins Again
In the flag tournament held Sat
urday at the Tryon Country club,
F. S. Wilcox won over twelve
players. His score was 89, handi
cap 17, net 72 and planted flag
50 yards from No. 1 green. Newt
Hardy of Inman was second with
a score of 89, handicap 16, net
73, and planted his flag on No. 1
fairway.
