Garden Pilgrimage
Saturday Afternoon
The Tryon Garden club will con
duct its annual pilgrimage to the
v following town gardens: Mrs. W.
R. Kales, Mrs. Julian Calhoun
Mrs. W. C. White, Mrs. S. T.
Crapo, Mrs. M. O. Kelley, The
Misses Nash, and Mrs. Homer El
lertson. The tolir will begin at
2:30 on Saturday afternoon in
front of Missildine’s Pharmacy.
After the gardens are visited, tea
will be served at the home of Mr.
Carter P. Brown, Pine Crest Inn,
who is an honorary member of the
Garden club. Anyone who would
like to go on the tour, should noti
fy Mrs. H. C. Metcalf, and anyotne
who has an extra seat or cat for
the tour should get in touch with
Mrs. Metcalf. Reservations are $1
per person.
Greenville Horse
Show Today & Sat.
The Greenville Horse Show is
being held tonight at 8 o’clock and
on Saturday afternoon from 2 to
Bp. m. A total of' 34 classes will
be presented. J. D. Massey is sec
retary of the show. A number of
Tryonites always attend the Green
ville show. Their entry blank al
so advertised the Tryon show.
Davis Paroled
Governor Ehringhaus today pa
roled Wallace 'B. Davis, former
president of the Central Bank of
Asheville.
Lanier Club Meet
The annual meeting of the Lan
ier club was held on Thursday af
ternoon at the Lanier Library with
the retiring president, Mrs. George
Brockenbrough presiding. Splen
did reports were given of the year’s
work. The membership commit
tee reported 122 paid members and
an honorary membership bring
the total to 142. The librarian
gave an excellent report which will
be published in The Polk County
News. The concert committee re
ported a successful seasnn.i>f three
delightful musical corterts for the
community which left a satisfac
tory balance in the treasury. Offi
cers for the ensuing year were
elected asi follows: Mrs. E. W.
Peattie, president: Mrs. Carroll P.
Rogers, vice-president; Mrs. G. L.
Canfield, vice-president; Mrs. E. E.
Missildine, secretary; Mrs. Ber
nard Sharp, treasurer. The direc
tors named were Mrs. George
Brockenbrough, Mrs. Willis Par
sons, Mrs. Nelson Jackson, Jr., and
Miss Susan Harper.
Easter Is Here
The Easter egg hunts for the
children, the greeting cards from
friends and the attractive display
of dresses, and hats in Ttyon stores
remind us all that Easter is here
and that it is an occasion for re
joicing among all true Christians.
Tax List Now
The people of Tryon Township
should list their taxes with G. H.
Holmes by Saturday or a penalty
of 25 percent will be added to their
taxes, according to an advertise
ment that has been published in
The Bulletin.
