C., WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Miss Heath; Ladies’ Night The Wesley Brotherhood will \hold a ladies’ night meeting on at the Tryon Methodist church at 7:30. Miss Virginia Heath will be the chief speaker. Golf News Winners in the recent golf tournament at the Tryon Country club were John Ritchie of Canada, who won the men’s tournament land was awarded the H. H. Parmalee trophy. Mr. Ritchie was just ten feet ahead of B. B. Bishop, Sr., of Inman. The women’s tourna ment was won by Mrs. Steinmill of Spartanburg. Trophy for this event was donated by J. C. Kim berly. Farr at Rotary 3 R. M. Farr of St. Clair, Mich., will be the chief speaker at the Tryon Rotary club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. F. P. Bacon has charge of the program. Biggest Appropriation Washington, April 23. The biggestt regular naval appropria tion bill in fifteen years was start ed down the ways of congress to day, prodded by the pronounce ment of a house leader that it was drafted with an eye on “war clouds hanging over Europe.”— Asheville Citizen. M. O. Dickerson Rutherfordton, April 23.—M. O. Dickerson, 74, for 26 years clerk of the Superior Court of Ruther ford county, died at his home Tues day afternoon at 2 o’clock follow ing an extended illness. The funeral services will be held Thursday morning at the Presby terian church here. Asheville Citizen. To Create Jobs Washington, April 23.—Setting up the machinery through which will be fed iall plans for creating jobs out of the four billion dollar work relief fund, President Roose velt today moved a step nearer the big-spending stage of his program. The White House, .in a four hundred word statement, delegated the task of passing on all plans to Frank C. Walker, a New York lawyer who for years has been a close friend of the President. To handle the job, Walker to morrow will return to the post he formerly held as head of the na tional emergency council. A new division of the council was set up to deal with the plans Donald R. Richberg who has been executive director of the cotincil since Wal ker left a few months ago, will devote his full time to directing NRA.—Asheville Citizen. John Kane of Pittsburgh paints box cars for a living, and pictures for recreation. One of his pictures won the Carnegie Institute prize at an exhibition in his"home city.
