ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT THE POST OFFICE AT TRYON, N. C., UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3. 1879 ©ft' Yol. 8 TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, APRIL 29, 1935 MAY PASS BALLOT BILL Raleigh, April 28—With a re stricted absentee ballot already voted for Haywood and McDowell counties, it is expected that other Western North Carolina counties jwill obtain similar legislation be re the General Assembly ad journs. The senate elections committee gave an unfavorable report on Representative Cloud’s bill to lim it absentee voting in Polk County, but is expected to grant a favora ble report to a somewhat similar bill introduced by Senator Thomp son oif Cleveland, The senator’s bill would prohibit absentee voting for county, municipal and township offices. Apparently, the Democratic lea ders in Polk county favor a re stricted absentee ballot law for Polk county but they want the measure to be sponsored by a Dem ocratic legislator and not by Rep resentative Cloud of Polk, whose party affiliation has been am un settled issue all session. \ It is believed that the Thomp son bill will be given a prompt 'favorable report by the senate elections’ committee, assuring its passage early this week. The house is expected tb accept it in view of its favorable action, on the original Cloud measure. —Asheville Citizen CLOSED FOR SUMMER The Tryon Book & Paper Shop will close on May 1 until the fall season.
