Mr. Erskine started his business in Tryon years age and it developed into one of the biggest things of its bind in the country. Hester and Helms In First Tennis Match Vice-president Julian B. Hester of the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., and holder of the first champion ship tennis cup in Tryon defeated Town Manager Claude H. Helms in the first match of the 1935 championship tournament on Wed nesday srt the Tryon Country club. The scute was 6-0; 8-6. The play ing was close and hard fought, as neither man had played in a long time. President F. P. Bowes of the Tryon Tennis Association, is in charge of the tournament. Mrs. Julian B. Carpenter Passes Mrs. Julian B. Carpenter of Landrum passed away early this morning at St. Luke’s hospital fol lowing an emergency operation on Saturday. Funeral services will be held some time this Saturday. Fulrther details will be announced in Friday’s Bulletin. MURDER AT THE VANITIES “Murder at the Vanities” is the name of the picture on at Tryon’s Theatre today and Friday. Baseball Meeting Is Called For Friday A business meeting of all direc tors and players will be held on Friday night at 7:30 at the Town Hall. The first game in Tryon will be played Saturday at Har mon Field. Baby Hospital Drive To Open Middle of May The annual campaign to secure funds for the support of the Spar tanburg Baby Hospital at Saluda, N. C., will be inaugurated here Tuesday, May 14, it was announc ed Tuesday night following a meet ing df the hospital’s finance com mittee at the Chamber of Com merce offices. The suggested goal for the cam paign is $4,500, it was stated. Wallace DuPre is chairman of the finance committee.—(Spartan burg Herald. First Game Saturday The first game in Tryon for the Industrial League will be played on Saturday afternoon at 3:30. The team needs money, so come out and see an interesting ball game. Admission 25 cents. Rummage Sale At The Parish House Saturday The St. Agnes Guild will hold a rummage sale Saturday from 2 to 6 p. m., at the Parish House.
