C., WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 1935 School Board Is Organized The Polk County School Board composed of R. M. Hall, Saluda; H. E. Thompson, Mill Spring; G. E. Bell, Tryon; H. P. Sharpe, Landrum, Route One; T. J. Mc- Dowell, Oampobello, Route One, met Tuesday morning at the Court House and organized for the new term. R. M. Hall was elected chair man and H. E. Thompson, vice chairman. P. S. White was re elected county superintendent. A delegation from Green’s Creek township came before the board to ask that they appoint local com mitteemen favorable to the reten tion of the present faculty. The board appointed the following com mittees for a term of two years each: Stearns School—F. M. Burgess, J. A. Burns and J. N. Williams. Mill Spring School —A. M. Lynch,, Mrs. Frank Jackson and E. B. Edwards. Sunny View School—T. E. Mc- Kee, J. M. McGuinn, W. W. Stepp, W. H. Ledbetter and Quincy Powell. Green’s Creek School—B. E. Hinsdale, Lowell Lowe, J. W. Fea gan, W. H. Barnett and J. A. Blackwood. The Stearns School committee met Tuesday night and organized by electing F. M. Burgess, chair man and J. A. Burns, secretary. They re-elected J. M. Andrews as principal, Misses Marie Burgess, Vadah McMurray, and Gladys Hamrick and Mrs. W. H. McDon ald as high school teachers, and Misses Jeanette McFarland, Eunice • Continued on Back Page Hon. Clyde Roark Hoey Announces For Governorship Hon Clyde R. Hoey of Shelby announced yesterday that he would be a candidate for the governor ship of North Carolina in the pri mary to be held next year. Rotary Will Meet At Lake Lanier The Tryon Rotary club will hold its luncheon meeting Friday at 1 p. m., at Lake Lanier Inn. Julian B. Hester will have charge of the program. Title Winner Miss Hilda von Siller has been notified that she was a prize winner in the recent song title contest con ducted by the Listerine-M'etropoli tan officials. The judges were Geraldine Farra, Lawrence Tibbett and Herbert R. Mayes. Donkey Baseball Is Very Amusing The Donkey Baseball game play ed Tuesday night at Harmon Field between the Rotary and Kiwanis teams was a scream for the aud ience and the players said that they had not had as much fun in a long time. Horace 'Werne, of Memphis, Tenn., one of the pro moters of the game said they would play in Forest City, and Marion this week. Est. 1-31-28
