Curtis, retired, of Columbia University, New York will address the Tryon Rotary club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Lake Lanier Inn. Prof. Curtis was for merly professor of botany at Co lumbia. Julian B. Hester has charge of the program. Court of Honor The Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor will meet Friday evening at 7:30 at the'Tryon school building. Scout Executive R. Ivl. Schiele will bring his moving pic ture machine and show some inter esting new pictures of Scout work. 15 Stills Still Sheriff Ed. Newman’s staff has destroyed 15 stills, caught 11 men, and captured 150 gallons of liquor. The stills were large and capable of producing an enormous quantity of liquor. Deputies H. D. Smith and J. B. Case sire assisting the sheriff in his work. Dance at Columbus The Columbus baseball team is giving a dance at Boxwood Inn on Friday evening to raise money for the ball club. THURSDAY, MAY 16, 1935 SWANN RITES Funeral services for W. F. Swiann, 65, who passed away Wed nesday about noon in Asheville, will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the Lynn Baptist church with the Rev. D. M. Mc- Geachy officiating. The pallbearers will be former Federal associates of Mr. Swann when he was deputy U. S. Mar shall, and are as follows: Brown low Jackson, J. M. Baley, M. A. West, J. M. Padgett and W. A. Lytle. The deceased is survived by his widow and three children: Fred E. Swann, Roy L. Swann, and Mrs. Charles Edwards, all of Try on; also the three sisters, Mrs. W. W. Ballard, Mrs. John Monroe, Mrs. Lewis Blackwell; and two brothers, Herman Swann of High point and Stanley Swann of West Asheville. Mr. Swann had made Polk coun ty his home for 35 years. He was formerly superintendent of the knitting mill at Lynn, was a mem ber of the legislature and a deputy U. S. Marshall. He took an ac tive part in civic affairs of the county and was prominently con nected with Republican politics of the state. The opening date and the per sonnel at Rainbow Lake were de cided upon at a recent meeting of the com missioners of public wo^ks. The lake, located near Boiling Springs and popular for water sort activities, will open June 1- Es’t. 1-31-28
