ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT THE POST OFFICE AT TRYON, N. C. ; UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS, MARCH 3, 1879 Vol. 8 TRYON. N. C., MONDAY, MAY 27, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 FROM GERMANY Gunterstal bei Freiburg May 14, 1935 Dear Vining— We have traveled a good deal, spent a few days each in Bremen, Lubeck, on the island of Ruegen, in Berlin, Heidelberg, and are now settled for a few days rest in Frei burg in Baden, one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. From the time we entered Ger many we were struck by the clean liness, orderliness, and purposeful ness of everything and everybody. You see no loiterers, no beggars, no dissatisfied faces. People talk quite freely and you may be sure, I have taken every opportunity to make them talk. On the trains, on the streets, and on our walks in the country we have plenty of chances to talk with people of all kinds of classes. They are all con vinced that they will! pull through, they know that they will succeed and are satisfied to) make any sac rifice to obtain their goal. I sup pose, that there are grumblers but they are so few that they can be disregarded. Germany is more united today than I ever thought it could be. There are no more Bavarians or Saxons or Prussians as formerly but they are Germans first and last. I may seem to you predjudiced, but it is not my own opinion alone. We have met people frtorn different nationalities on the trains and in the hotels and some of them who have traveled here two or three years ago are aston ished at the change that has taken place, at the will to succeed. Greetings to all our friends in Try oh. Almost one third of our va cation is over and we have a lot more to see. Auf Wiedersehen, von Kahlden SENATOR FISHER, 82 Former Senator J. C. Fisher is 82 years old today. Among many greetings received is a letter and gift from Congressman Zebulon Weaver. Mr. Fisher has been ill for sometime, but his past influ ence and political leadership not only in the county but in the state has given him a wide circle of friends who extend best wishes on his 82nd birthday. A New Hostess Miss Kathleen Heritage, new home economist for the Duke Pow er Co. will be in Tryon on Wednes day afternoon for an At Home period at the offices of the Duke Power Co. Miss Heritage succeeds Mlrs. Leila A. Flemming who has gone to Tennessee. Manager Bow en cordially invites all Tryon peo ple to drop in and meet Miss Heri tage who may be of service in helping them to get the most bene fit from their electric refrigera tion. CAFE ROBBED Thieves entered the Tryon Case Sunday night and took a consider able amount of food, meats, eggs, chickens, cigarets, some cash, and the radio. Nearly everything was recovered this morning when the stoleni gooids were found hidden under some ties across the railroad tracks near the old box factory.
