Meddling With Birds There are occasion cases where the natural balance between in sects and birds is temporarily up set, says Mr. Osborne. These are ‘usulally due to man's meddling with the natural state of affairs anti upsetting the applecart, so to speak. We have many examples of this today, such as the Japanese beetle, European corn borer and other foreign insects that have been carelessly introduced into this country. Because these pests have found an abundance of food in man’s cultivated crops they are en abled to increase and spread rapid ly and because they are new in the environment there is no natural check set up against them. In many of these instances man has had to furnish artificial checks on these pests through poisons, quar antines, etc.—New York Times.
