In Lake Lanier Termed
Suicide by Coroner.
The body of Pearl Caroline Gos
nell, 17, of Landrum, who 1 had
been missing since she left the
home of her brother, George E.
Gosnell, Jr., Tuesday about 4:15 p.
m., was found in Lake Lanier a
few feet south of the North Caro
lina line yesterday morning.
Coroner George W. McCoy of
Greenville county conducted an in
vestigation end termed the drown
ing a suicide. He said no inquest
would be necessary. An autopsy
was performed, and no signs of
violence were said to have been
discovered. Death had been caused
by drowning, the coroner said.
)The young woman was said to
avc left the home of her brother
saying that she would, visit her
sisters, Mrs. Joe Johnson and Mrs.
Alvin Johnson of Saluda, N. C.
When she failed to appear, a search
was begun. The last known per
sons found who sarw her were a
group of motorists who said they
passed her near the upper entrance
to the lake between, 6 and 7 p. m.,
Tuesday.
The body was found, completely
clothed, floating in the lake by
Z. M. Netherton, superintendent.
It was lodged against the dam
about 10 feet from the shore
Greenville county officers arrived
about 2 p. m., and the body was re
moved from the lake half an hour

Party Postponed
The party for the parents of
the members of the Tryon Boys
club which was to be given on
Saturday evening by Dr. and Mrs.
George F. Taylor at the McDonald
home has been postponed until
Saturday, July 27, on account of
the condition of the roads.
Those having their tonsils re
moved on Thursday at St. Luke’s
hospital were Connie and William
Strickland of Chesnee, S. C., route
one, Pickens Durham of Tryon
and Horace Lane of Lynn.
