C., WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Cary-Kittrell Friends in Tryon will be inter ested in the marriage of Francis Kittrell to Miss Frances Peay Cary, on Saturday, August 10, at PJftlarksville, Tenn. The bride is a ,Aece of Governor Peay. The grccm is a son of Mrs. C. W. Kit- Irell of Tryon Sunday’s Tennessee Banner gave an account of the wedding. Miss Martha Farns worth of Franklin, Tenn., was maid of honor and Mr. John Kittrell of Laurens, S. C., brother of the groom, was best man. Mrs. C. W. Kittrell and Mr. John Kittrell were among the guests at a dinner given for the bridal party at the Idaho Springs hotel on the eve of the wedding. The young couple are now spending their honeymoon in the mountains of Western North Carolina. "sports - Judge Miller C. Foster who is spending the month of August in is general chairman of the imerican Legion Junior Baseball tournament which is being held Friday and Saturday in Spartan burg. Teams from 35 states in the Union have entered the tour nament. Today’s Charlotte Ob server carried a picture of Judge Foster on the spdrt page. Another sport feature of inter est to Tryonites was a picture of Bitsy Bryan Grant of Atlanta showing him receiving the Eastern grass court singles championship trophy after defeating Frank Shields. Bitsy Grant has played tennis on the Tryon courts while a guest in the home of Carroll P. Regers. Grant was then a student at the University of North Caro lina. HOME BURNED A cottage in the Valley owned by Miss Louise Lanham of Spar tanburg was completely destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon about 3:30 when an oil stove exploded. The house was occupied by a Miss Cohen, and guests from Louisiana who had been there only a few days. Everything in the house in cluding clothes, about SIOO in cash and a valuable watch were de stroyed. Some corners of the money bearing serial numbers were recovered from the debris this morning and it is hoped that the government will issue new money in its place. The fire burned too rapidly to save anything. A num ber of the guests were lying down resting when the fire started and a little baby had only his diaper to wear away from the burning home. The house loss was covered by in s err a nee, it is said. The Tryon fire department arrived in time to save the home and some trees of Mrs. Wm, Mackay. Tryon Boy Scouts, Albert Leo nard, Greenwood Bishop end David Cromer took turns and kept watch over the burning coals all night in order to prevent sparks from spreading the fire. Prominent Visitors Guests today of Mr. and Mrs. Miller C. Foster at their summer cottage on Lake Lanier are Dr. and Mrs. Lee Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pennell, Mr. and Mrs. James Burnett, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Her ring, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Maury Pearson and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Reel, all of Spartanburg.
