C., THURSDAY, AUG. 22, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Horse Show Judges C. J. Lynch and George A. Cathey are judging two Horse Shows today. They judge one this morning for the Lake Lure ciamp for girl's and one this afternoon for the Bear Wallow camp for girls near Hendersonville. Mr. Lynch and Mr. Cathey have been officials of the Tryon Horse Show ever since it was organized and are recognized authorities on es questrian events in this section. Flower Garden Leader’s School Miss Pauline Smith, Northeas tern District Agent from Raleigh, and J. G. Weaver, Professor of Horticulture at State Cbllege, will be in Polk county on Friday, Aug. 23, for an all-day Garden Lead er’s School. Miss Smith and Mr. Weaver will discuss planting and transpdiant ing of flowers and shrubs, types cf soil suitable to different flowers. Also arrangement of flotwers and shrubs around homes and churches. The meeting will begin prompt ly at 10 o’clock and will be held in the Columbus high school audi torium. The home agent is anxious to have the Garden Leaders in each of the clubs and others who are interested come to the meeting. She feels that this meeting will be of unusual interest and very instructive to the women of Polk county. So please make your plans to at tend and bring a picnic lunch with you. Truck Driver Held Up by Four Robbers Four highwaymen operating a Chevrolet truck and a Fdrd V-8 held up a Convoy Trucking Co., driver of Charlotte nead Blacks burg, S. C., about 8 o’clock Wed nesday night. They handcuffed the driver and locked him in the back Os the big steel truck after they had taken a large quantity of cigarettes. Some of the tobacco merchandise was left on the road near Landrum. The men then painted off with green pain the name of the trucking firm and drove the big truck on to Tryon where they left it on the highway between W. Y. Wilkins’ home and the Erskine rock bridge. The handcuffed driver was able to lo cate a wrench in the truck and managed to break open the door with it about 2:30 this morning. He immediately went to Mr. Wil kins' home and telephoned head quarters in Charlotte. No trace of the men had been found at time of going to press. Saluda Man Is Named On Faculty of School St. Augustine, Fla., Aug. 21. D(r. J. C. Settles, president of the Florida state school for deaf and blind here, announced today that J. W. Alexander, of Saluda, N. C., had been appointed a member of the faculty and athletic director for boys.—Asheville Citizen.
