Boys Club Closes
With Exercises Fri.
I The awarding 1 of the Silver Cup
*o the most outstanding 1 boy of the
Try on Boys club will take place at
the school on Friday morning at
II o’clock. The cup is the gift of
J. N. Jackson, Sr., in appreciation
of the work of the club throughout
the summer. The exercises will
last but fifteen minutes and all
parents and friends interested in
the club are invited to attend.
At that time the shield won by
the most outstanding of the three
gr< ups will be awarded and there
will he an exhibition of the draw
ings, and the women belts, mocca
sins. and the overseas caps.
AH town hoys are welcome
whether members of the club or
not. A baseball game will follow
the short exercises.
pr. Keller at Kiwanis
Dr. I jewis H. Keller, summer
pastor of the Rrskine Memorial
church, was the chief speaker at
the Tryon Kiwanis club on Tues
day at 1 p. m., at Edge wood Inn.
He spoke of the many favorable
comments on this section made by
prominent visitors, and told of the
great work for retired ministers
at the Penny Farms homes in
, Florida which is a beautiful haven
built by J. C. Penny in memory
of 1 his father and mother. L. A.
Avant had charge of the program.
Members back from trips gave
brief reports: C. P. Rogers from
Wisconsin, W. E. Kilpin from the
Carolinas coast and Holland Brady
from Florida,
Kiwanis Rally
To Bring Many
Kiwanis delegations from 13
Carolinas cities and towns have
been invited to Spartanburg
Thursday night for a divisional
meeting, planned to be one of the
most significant civic events of the
year here.
From North Carolina, the Hen
dersonville, Tryon, Shelby, Bel
mont, Gastonia, Forest City am
Rutherfordton clubs have been in
vited, while in South Carolina in
vitations have been sent to the
Columbia, Greer, Greenwood, Clin
ton, Andreson, Rock Hill and New
berry clubs.
Judge Kautz, immediate past
district governor of Ohio, will
speak, and the Spartanburg club
will be hosts.
The affair, in the form of a din
ner meeting, will be held at the
Cleveland Hotel, beginning at 7:30
o’clock. President J. T. Hudson

Frank Foster Gets
13 Year Sentence
Frank Foster, charged with the
second degree murder of Otis Pack
last May at a saw mill in Polk
county, wins convicted and sentenc
ed in the Superior Court Tuesday
at Columbus to 13 years in prison
Foster may appeal his case,
it is reported. All civil cases were
put off until next term of court.
