C., SATURDAY, AUG. 31, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Child Swallows Needle Without Serious Harm Allen Ravan, 4-year-old son of Mrs. Viola Ravan, swallowed a needle last Saturday. The child (was taken to St. Luke’s hospital where he was placed under a,n X-Ray. The needle was seen going through the child’s lung and doc tors had to wait until the needle moved before operation. The needle traveled around inside the child’s body and the operation was per formed on Monday. The needle was removed from the lower part of the stomach. So far he is apparently doing well. Just another example of the medical service given at St. Luke’s hospital. HE A DUNES Emperor Haile Selasse of Ethio pia deed half of his kingdom to English, and. American oil interest in an effort to prevent war with Italy. He evidently figured that will take the lure away from the Italians. The deed is a 75-year lease. The Standard Oil Co., will exploit and develop the properties consisting of 150,000 square miles. An investment of $60,000,000 will he spent in that country by the Standard Oil. West has cold weather with temperatures in North Dakota where it dropped to 26 yesterday. Air-mail pilot Howard wins aerial race frdm Los Angeles to Cleveland. Col. Monday Is Labor Day Public Places Closed The Tryon Bank & Trust Co., and The Tryon Postoffice will be closed on Monday, September 2, on account of it being a National Holiday, Labor Day. So fa;r as this paper knows there will be no local celebrations of anv kind, but in the larger cities it is one of the biggest holidays of the year. The Tryon postoffice wiil be open for one hour on Monday morning from 9 to 10 a. m., according to Postmaster W. H. Stearns.
