Turner Family Is
Home From China
New York, Aug. 31.—Bringing
vivid tales of wild Chinese com
munists who combine practical
banditry with their political as
pirations, Mr. and Mrs.' Eugene A.
Turner and their two sons, Eugene
A. Turner, Jr., and Frank, all
formerly of Wake Forest, N. C.,
are resting here for several days
at the Prince George hotel before
proceeding to Tryon, N. C.
Mr. Turner, who has been a
Y. M. C. A. secretary in Nan
chang, Kiangsi province, for the
last 22 years, was enthusiastic
about China and its people, but he
agreed that there was true mean
ing in the song about “Crying for
the Carolines.” The last time the
family visited home was seven
and a half years ago.
“The work I am engaged in,”
Mr. Turner said, “is the rehabili
tation of what was once the most
communist - infested region in
China. It took forceful struggle
and much bloodshed to oust the
fierce bandit-like tribes who left
misery and devastation in their
wake.”
The Turners arrived here yes
terday on the North German Lloyd
express liner Bremen. Mr. and
Mrs. Turner will return to the
Orient after their stay in the
United States. Eugene, Jr., will re
main to attend the University of
North Carolina, aind Frank will
go to Mars Hill junior college.— {
