C., TUESDAY, SEPT. 3, 1935 Est. 1-31-28 Applications Filed For Federal Funds The highlights at regular meet ing of the Town of Tryon Commis sioners held on Mdnday evening, were filing of three applications for Federal funds for public im provements. The first application was filed with the Public Works Administration for funds with which to construct a badly needed sewerage system and disposal plant which has been recommended by the State Board of Health. This week was the last time the Town would be given the oppor tunity to apply for Federal funds with 45 per cent of it being a di rect gift from the Federal gov ernment, and the remaining fifty five per cent to be loaned by the Federal government at 4 per cent interest. To have waited longer, the Town would have had to build the plant and pay all the cost with money borrowed at 6 per cent. The second application was to the Works Progress Administra- Ntion for funds with which to con t/struct a nine hole municipal golf * course adjdining the present site of the Tryon Country club, which would make available an 18 hole golf cougse This will not cost the Town government very much and will be of immense help to local laborers and business men as well •as offering a better inducement to newcomers and home builders. Os the estimated cost of $36,000 $21,000 will be spent for local la bor. Grants from the Federal government and members of the Country club will leave the Town of Tryon to furnish only some equipment. The third application was for Continued on Back Page- —» Mrs. Bryson Dies In Asheville, N.C. Mrs. C. E. Bryson, mother of Mrs. W. W. Creasman of Tryon, died on Monday evening in Ashe ville after an illness of sometime. Funeral services will be held this afternoon in Asheville. Dr. Eisner Heads State Pedic Assn. Dr. Ethel Eisner of Asheville who also had ain office in Tryon last winter, was elected president of the North Carolina Pedic as sociation at its annual meeting at the Langren hotel on Monday, ac cording to a news item in the Asheville Citizen. Residence at Saluda Destroyed by Fire SALUDA, Sept. 2— The two storv house here belonging to R. C. Hamer, o's Eastover, S. C l . was destroyed by fire on Saturday morning about 11* o’clock. Much of the furniture and clothing in the house was saved. About SI,OOO in insurance was catrried, but this does not cover the entire loss. The house, which was at the foot of Piney mountain, was built several years ago. —Asheville Citizen. STORM IN FLORIDA The entire southern end of Flo rida was warned last night of storms due there today and head ing westward toward the gulf.
