Saluda Defeats
Fruitland, 11-2
Saluda defeated Fruitland of the
Henderson county league on Satu
urday by the score of 11 to 2.
Ray Ward pitched for Saluda
and was very effective. He allow
ed them only six hits.
Saluda batsmen pounded out 15
safeties. Among them a home run
by Phil Heatherly with one man
on, in the second inning.
Egerton and Waldrop connected
safely three times each. While L.
Jleatherly and P. Heatherly smack
d two hits each.
Fruitland scored in the second
and sixth innings. In the second
Patillo hit a home run.
Saluda’s big scoring spree start
ed in the second inning and result
ed in five runs.
Saluda plays Fletcher at Bal
four on Thursday and it should
be a good game.

MRS. B. GLOVER
PASSED TODAY
Mrs. Alice Lanning Glover, 28,
wife of B. Glover passed away at
2 o’clock this morning (Thursday)
after an illness of several years.
Funeral services will be held Fri
day afternoon. Besides her hus
band the deceased is survived by
one daughter, Christine, seven
years old.
Woman’s Auxiliary
The Woman’s Auxiliary of the
Episcopal Diocese of Western
North Carolina is holding its an
nual convention at Kainuga tod'y
(Thursday) and tomorrow. Mt .-
bers attending from Holy Cross
Parish are Mrs. W. E. Lindsey,
Miss MinerVa Avant, Mrs. W. J.
McDowell, Mrs. J. N. Jackson and
Miss Alice Bland. For those who
are unable to be at Kanuga there
will be a corporate communion at
the Church of the Holy Cross to
morrow (Friday) morning at 7:30.
At Kiwanis Tuesday
Roy J. Ellison of Duncan, S. C.,
supervisor of vocational and agri
cultural guidance in Spartanburg
county schools, was the chief
speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis club
meeting on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at
EdgewOod Inn. Mr. Ellison com
pared farm and city life and
urged the co-operation of the Ki
wanis club in encouraging worthy
farmers to remain on the farm
in order to l build up a higher stand
ard of farm life. R. H. Brady had
charge of the program.
